I enjoyed it for what it was, a monster collecting game, right up until you could no longer collect all the monsters.
This happened in SM when the space available in the pc storage was no longer enough to have a living dex.

I enjoy it for the mons they create and the freedom to play with the one's I like, I do not think any are lazy or bad in design desu (besides gen 1) and to explore new regions.
