Obstagoon is not a cross-gen evolution.

It's specific to the galarian form (= evolution of a new pokemon). The regular ones don't evolve.

I mean, you are both right in some sense. The SPECIES isn't new so Obstagoon IS a cross-gen evolution, but the form that evolves into Obstagoon isn't from an old gen. It's like Diantha's ace, is it a gen 3 pokemon or a gen 6 pokemon? The base form is from gen 3, but its real form is a change introduced in gen 6

But this mechanic changes its form, it's not like if it was using a gen 6 move or had a gen 6 ability, the entirety of the pokemon changes like if it was a new species, where do you trace the line? It's not that simple
