I love that the kaiju inspirations are subtle enough that they aren't blatant. Added with the literal goblin inspiration and the line is almost perfect.

Also the yellow star on the dorsal fin was a nice touch. Great attention to detail.

I'm glad someone noticed the star thing. I took the idea of goblin sharks being considered "living fossils" and the fact that Garchomp is possibly a reference to land sharks from After Man: Zoology of the future and decided to expand on that. The number of stars represent a points in time.

3 points = Ancient shark
4 points = Present shark
5 points = Future shark

Man I seriously need to learn how to emulate this art style, I'm in such a fucking rut. I'm certain these would look ten times as fitting if I did.

I've been trying to actually get my full dex idea to paper instead of rotting in a notebook, and made this to help keep track. Figured I'd post what's there for some criticism. Even if you can't really see shit. I could always post the full version of something if someone actually wants to see something clearer.

Spoilered because it's just a sloppy reference sheet I made for myself, nothing to pollute the page with or anything.

I don't think garchomp would be referencing the Man After Man 'Land Shark,' which was just a very big mole rat sort of creature. The concept of a land shark has been a trope longer than that! There's a few games, anime and manga with walking sharks because it's just kind of an obvious monster concept (SHARK ON LAND!!! FUCK!!!!)....there was also a wildly popular Saturday Night Live sketch in the 70's and 80's about a land shark, who was also a phony door to door salesman.

heads up with the bottom one. The colors blend into eachother. Turn it to grey scale and if they look similar then that means they dont contrast as well as they probably should. Stomach especially hurts because of that.

I'd love to see that lobster line finished, it's great. And I fucking love that molecular looking poison thing. My only criticism is that Ghoshawk really is just a hawk, there's nothing to distinguish it as some fantastical monster. Not saying it needs some kind of stupid theme awkwardly stapled to it or to go nuts with spikes then light it on fire or something, I just think some kind of detail would help it stand out. Even pidgeotto had it's big dumb plume, and toucannon has the benefit of being based on an animal that already has a ridiculous distinguishing feature. First two work great though.

Another design I did. I'm personally proud of this one.
For context the region I'm making is based on the Western US. (Mainly California)

it's Fairy/Steel
Based on a California Poppy mixed with the holy grial. It's a objectmon that takes the appearance of a flower. Any liquid that's poured into it gain healing properties, like how Poppy flowers and it's seeds are used in a lot of herbal medicine and other types of healing.
The California Poppy is California's state flower and is sometimes called the "golden cup" so that's where I decided to mix it with the holy grail.

So since this thread's still up. I tried practicing the style for an hour, shitty deviantart tutorials and all. Design-wise might not be perfect, but I was hoping the art style being more accurate would help. How is it?

Also, starter middle stages don't get enough love.

I'm not an artist but I'd like to share my idea here, if that would be all right:
Scawrge (A small crow wearing a small plague-doctor mask)
Illness Pokemon
Poison/Ghost
This Pokemon appears often during times of pestilence. In medieval times doctors would be summoned at the mere presence of Scawrge.
Wt: 800 g
Ht: 70 cm
Abilities:
>Sickly: Stat-lowering moves are twice as effective if the Pokemon is status-effected.
>Gale Wings
>Healer (? HA)
>Poison Heal
Evolves into:

>Slaughteraven (bad name)
>Ravend (worse name)
>Birdemic(Fuck no!)
>Corviral (somewhat okay but sounds like Corviknight so unoriginal)
Plague Pokemon
This Pokemon has been responsible for many epidemics, through no fault of its own. [Name] are rather amicable, but they are not often approached due to the danger of illness; this makes them rather lonely.
Ghost/Flying
Abilities:
> Infection - Has the status Infected, (which is like poison but takes 1/5 HP);10% chance to give either allies or enemies the status every turn without need for contact. If infection happens the infected Pokemon is chosen at random; it can be either an ally or enemy. Infected Corviral, while still infected, gain a small Guts-like boost.

My final decision is
Scawrge -> Corviral -> Reaven

I don't know if you intended this, but reaven can be used as a part of the word "bereaved" - recently departed. Also reaven sounds like heaven.

We already have a grim-reaper pokemon, dusknoir, but i like reaven!
some things i forgot to add:
Shiny forms are gray/white
Corviral becomes more skeletal and malnourished in nature, like a victim of the spanish flu - a flu that is descended from birds. the cloak takes more of its body. It evolves by friendship (maybe, if that sounds ok)
Reaven's beak looks like the grim-reaper scythe. It's the only thing you can see from under its cloak.
