That's not true. In the post-game, Lillie is shown to use Clefairy in Rainbow Rocket. Then you can recruit her for the Battle Tree, where she uses Ribombee and Comfey. She is a Fairy-type trainer in the games.

They do now anyway. In the show she's just the ice specialist, even though they tried giving her Magearna and they haven't had her evolve her Vulpix. So she's really the ice user.
