I'm just leveling my bros to 100 in ultra sun. It's really not that fun due to the lack of an endgame really, but at least all my niggas are together and desu it's kinda fun raising baby and stage 1 mons and having them stomp shit in the league. I never knew oddish was so fucking good.

I'm practicing a bit in Pokemon Essentials so I can eventually make my own fangame. It's just going to be a small thing: An escape from an evil team lab where you had your Pokemon confiscated so you knock the grunt guarding your prison cell out cold, steal his Pokemon, then fight grunts on your way to the exit while taking Pokemon when you beat them and building your team out of those before fighting the admin at the end. No leveling up, all mons are pre-set at level 100 with specific EVs/IVs/Natures/Movesets. Customization is just which mons you choose to keep in your party. Figured it'd be a good practice run.

It is. It's the zombie simpsons of Nintendo. Mediocre games for at least 6 years, and 3 more to come. That's almost a decade of subpar games out of what would then be 26 years overall lifespan.
The lack of national dex and the conpaitibilty issues which will come from that will only make things even worse. Wouldn't be surprised if they go full mobile at some point.

playing older games exclusively. people give USUM a lot of shit, but i don't mind it being the "hub game" for my monster collection (shinies, bred mons, etc)

i don't have a problem with dropping pokémon. i skipped XY until 2016, and only because i wanted access to kalos stuff without having to trade for everything. might get SWSH at some point to catch up, but only if GF makes a real pokémon game again

The shin megami tensei phone game is pretty good if you ignore pvp, V is probably gonna be amazing and yokai watch while a bit supbar keeps going steps forward and no steps back, which is a relief after living under the gamefreak syndrome, Digimon is amazing now so I guess I'll stay on pokemon phone games and let the main games die or at least switch devs

Pokemon isn't a zombie series. A zombie series is one that continued far beyond what the creator intended.

It has nothing to do with quality, it just means it went on longer than planned. Pokemon never had a planned end, the intent was always to keep going until it stopped making money.

Satoshi Tajiri intended Gold and Silver to close the series. That's why Ruby and Sapphire feels so different.

He didn't. The only who said anything about Gold & Silver being the end was Ishihara, who said he "thought" Pokemon would be done after Gold & Silver.

Which is why he had the anime created to advertise Gen 2 and create the optimal conditions for it to succeed.

Ruby and Sapphire felt different because Pokemania had ended shortly after Gen 2's release so they had to put a lot of effort into proving that Pokemon wasn't just a fad.

I am not normally a downer like this but I've lost faith in the powers that be to make a good Pokemon game. I had fun with S/M for what they're worth, but I was still disappointed by how much better the games could have been. Thinking about Crystal, Emerald, HGSS, Platinum, the stadium and Colosseum games, Snap, the MD games before Super... we'll never have anything like that again. Everything will be soulless and use the same souless 3D models and now will feature more and more of these lame new Pokemon and gimmicks. Gene Simmons badger and a goddamn giant cake - that's what we have to look forwward to. And it sucks ass.
