Pokémon that can learn moves that aren’t within its typing or thematically within reason to it’s design can fuck off. I hate type coverage movesets.

because every gen 1 pokemon gets insane movepools, especially normal types
literally the only non normal type and non legendary pokemon i can think of who learns those elemental moves for no reason is bastiodon

But they don't create it. Fire produces energy, and water becomes ice. Plants don't turn into earth. They can provide nutrients to soil after decaying, but ground types are generally associated with sand and such.

It can be a ground type grass knot with a 25% chance to lower speed, take it or leave it. You can't convince me that a move like uproot in any way can naturally get over 30 base damage.

This. Also, move learning in first games were severely limited. You could have literally one pokemon learn fire blast and that was it. Snorlax as a species doesn't learn fire blast, your specific Snorlax just might.

Most of this shit comes from TMs, and it makes sense that a Pokemon has a more diverse moveset when you artificially force it to learn a move as opposed to naturally learning it.
That being said, there's definitely some bullshit TMs that don't make sense, but I don't see why it's worth getting up in arms about.
Everything learning Toxic however is total bullshit and I want to know why the fuck that's a thing considering Toxic is the most reliable status-effect move in the entire game.

Most pokemon who can surf aside from water types can do so because they're big enough to ride on and can swim in some fashion. Those are the only real requirements for non-water types.

I hate the ability of Pokémon being able to learn various TM and cover moves because it detracts from the viability of many Pokémon.

Why should I use Ice-types when every water Pokémon learns Icebeam/Blizzard. No one uses poison types because likewise it’s that types best move is available in Toxic for tons of other Pokémon.

Kaijumon in general have big special movepools, even if they can't really use them.
Aggron can learn Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Flamethrower/Surf/Eart Power/Dragon Pulse and can even learn things like Aqua Tail.

I kind of agree, but I wouldn't be as strict with it for ALL moves (I don't find a problem with normal types learning catch-all elemental moves), but yes for some key moves that I feel are given away too freely. For example
>Toxic can be learned by all poison types, but also ninja mons (greninja, accelgor, ninjask) and non-poison mons that need it badly and look like they could produce poison (shuckle, pyukumuku)
>Scald can only be learned by water types that have to do with pressurized water blasting (blastoise, clawitzer), geysers (simipour, volcanion), seahorse dragons (kingdra, dragalge), but also emboar and pyukumuku for meme value
>among water types, only ice/water ones or those that have artic or ice-like elements to them (suicune, wailord) learn ice beam
>Outside of ground and rock types, earthquake can be learned by mons that are very big and heavy (snorlax, gyarados). Stuff like mantine has no bussiness learning it.

In gen 1 you either get everything or nothing. There's a few outliers like Alakazam which doesn't have that wide a movepool in gen 1 but gets really good stuff though.
