Whitney was memorable because she made dumb kids reconsider their "strategies" or develop one at all if they wanted to beat her. Same with the end game leaders and the elite 4. I clearly remember kids having trouble with those back then. Hell, even some of the gen 3 leaders and elite 4 were hard as fuck back then when we didn't know how the game worked. HELL, I myself found the elite four hard as fuck the last time I played because I wanted to use my favorite shitmons and got my ass handed to me despite using every trick in the book, optimizing my team and relying on items.
THAT's why we are still talking about those games today. A game that holds your hand and treats kids like they are legitimately retarded is not going to be remembered fondly by them years later. It'll just be another forgettable piece of media that they might have some very faint nostalgia for.
