Gen 4 evolutions were horrid and ruined a lot of pokemon...but Gen 8 started bad with Obstagoon.

no. the first cross-gen evolutions were brilliant and necessary (steelix, crobat, kingdra, etc.) and only a handful of the sinnoh ones are bad (Dusknoir's exemplary compared to recent shit like Obstagoon)

Cross-gen evolutions are a good idea, and Obstagoon is great.
I'm still not going to buy the shitpile that is gen VIII, but Obstagoon is great.

Cross-gen evolutions are a good idea, but a lot of them have a bad design.

Gen 2 were all good but...let's look at Gen 4's and Gen 8's.

Gen 4 has a lot of unecesary and ugly shit like Tangrowth, Gallade, Frosslass, Chingling, Rympherior, Magmrortar, Dusknoir.
Gen 8 we only know one of them and it's already telling that it will be shit.
