Someone who prefers the type of gameplay that consists in being immersed in a real-scaled environment with a free camera will prefer a 3D map-design.
Someone who prefers the type of gameplay that consists in solving puzzles in-top down views in small caves/buildings will prefer a 2D map-design
Regardless of which configuration you prefer, it's always tied to gameplay and not just "graphics".
A three dimensional world can very well have shit graphics, like it was the case for the earliest RPGs in first person back in the 80s/90s.
So don't dumbly associate the wish to have a three dimensional real-scaled world with being a "graphixfag"
