>>39701375I feel part of the appeal of Jasmine's character design is how she manages to look so plain and featureless (even by early Toriyama-aping Sugimori's standards), a brown-haired young woman in a white dress, sandals and hair ornaments, and still come out as an instantly recognizable character. Couple this with the disconnect between her demeanor and appearance and the type of Pokemon she trains (Steel) and the image those Pokemon have, and you have a character who's striking in her ordinariness; perhaps even believable. Looking at Jasmine, you can believe in the world of Pokemon and the people living in it, not just as characters constructed around a theme (oh, he's a Rock type trainer, he's ripped or otherwise a tough guy who hangs around mountain ranges) but as people.
Her HGSS attire could just be something she might wear on another day, but I still prefer the original.
