Story content? Pokemon has the writing skill of a 1st grader. Also, by cutting Pokemon you remove replayability from challenge runs since you can no longer have advanced ROM hacks with most of the national dex available.

I was referring to major texture difference like with minceno, as only drastic changes might (emphasis on might) affect animations and actually be work.

Textures are usually separate from models, there's a few exceptions depending on what file formats and APIs you're working with but they're typically not even loaded into memory together. Sorry for phone posting/bad pic, but my air conditioner broke down so I can't sleep and I'm out of patience.

Grain of salt as I'm primarily an engine developer so while I work with reading in the assets and implementing them I rarely create them except as placeholders to get things rolling. Again it depends on their specific workflow, but in general the model is the mesh + UV(texture coordinates, used to tell the shaders which part of the texture goes where) + normals depending on if the normals are part of the vertecies or are a separate textuer used for normal mapping, and sometimes material/vertex color is saved in the model itself but I don't see a lot of that these days as that's mostly used for solid colors and relative shiny/roughness which lacks the level of detail modern games need. Textures are mostly separate files entirely, as they are not always as straight forward as just slapping colors on a shape - they can have the mipmap levels baked in, contain bumpmap/normal map data, or have multiple part to them like cube textures. For example when working in direct 3d 11(that's the book in front of me right now so it's what's popping into my head) you load the textures into their own pre-defined class depending on what type of texture it is while you load the models into whatever structure you define for them - can be as simple as an array of groups of 6 integers for xyz and uvw coordinates and tell the shader which set of vertecies to render and which texture(s) to cover them in. You can literally send a shader the same model moved to different locations in 3d space each rendering with completely different textures and it works fine although the textures may look weird if they weren't meant for that model and aren't simple enough to look fine in anything. The model data doesn't change, the texture data doesn't change, it's just rendered differently.

A model is an amalgamation of things. I can redo the textures or change the shaders on the same model. I can re-rig the same model. I can refine the topology of the same model. I can increase or decrease polygonal density of the same model. I can reproportion the same model.

The contention is determining at what point of variation a model is classified as another. Some might say that a Pikachu is a pikachu and that any number of differences don't make it anything more than a variation on the model that is Pikachu. Some may say that even a slight change means that the export can be classified as different.

The most notable perspective in this circumstance is what Game Freak's own definition is and what was meant by what was said in the Famitsu interview.

On topic of what it takes to recreate the texture map to suit a particular aesthetic and the amount of work necessary or challenge that may be involved, it definitely isn't as trivial as you initially indicated or even simply a matter of tracing as you've said here

These games are shit but the "evil team" is clearly a red herring just like Team Skull was. Team Skull was a band of punk kids, while the Aether foundation was the real villain. Level design is 1998-tier with fucking hallways and paths dug in the ground in late 2019.
It looks fucking dead with Terminator NPCs everywhere not moving and overworld encounter are just random models awkwardly doing their walk-stop-wait5sec-turn90degrees-walk pattern.

I already played that game, team Yell looks like another Skull episode without the leader. The trailers make it look like it's a SM reskin, and I hope it's just because of bad advertising.

I know I look hard to please, but I would actually buy it if 4 of the cons end up being false. I wouldn't even download it for free on my phone if the game is actually like I imagine when I see a trailer.
I hope I'm wrong about most of these things, but not very confident.
