>>39692445I'll be honest with you, XY are surprisingly good at the beginning and surprisingly dull at the end. If you play through it with a little bit of imagination you can sort of see where they might have gone with it if there was an upper version, or where they might go in the future with a possible remake. They were probably the most unfinished games to date when you compare the plans with the final product but they were the most recent games to have any soul left.
SM on the other hand was on the surface a pure upgrade in terms of mechanics but lacked any kind of soul. Cutscenes while a great idea were used for the most simple interactions in the game which made the first half drag out. It had more optional areas but when you dig deeper you realize most of these are empty hallways. Unlike XY which felt unfinished, in SM this actually felt like the intention when they made the games. This was even worse in USUM when little changed. They spent at least a years worth of development time on that game just to add the photo club, change up the plot, add more hallways, add a few more pokemon in and make one (1) proper dungeon, Mt Lanakila, which was really just making it what it should have been to begin with. If you play USUM prepare for it to feel more like an insult if you were expecting any kind of content, and especially so if you liked the main plot of SM or its postgame episode.
If you really liked the features of Emerald and want remakes to stay consistent with it, then you might have issues with ORAS but if you could take it or leave it, then they are great remakes of RS themselves.
