Dragon Quest Builders is an even better comparison. I wish we could build our own Gyms in-game. Nowadays we can't even build Secret Bases anymore.

This. I like the idea of making gyms in pokemon games, but I think Secret/Underground Bases are the closest thing we should ever get to that.
