>>39708024Not the person you're replying to, but I'd like to refute these points regardless
>Point 1Correct, it's a mental condition, not a social compulsion.
>Point 2No, the majority of transgender people transition of their own volition, often against the wants of their family and peers, -then- gravitate towards "hugboxes" for a support structure in their lives.
>Point 3, first sentenceComplete and total FUD on all counts. Pic related. Gender dysphoria isn't a leading cause of suicide, being left without a support structure because you're transgender is. It's the same shit as blaming videogames for mass shootings instead of blaming neglectful mental health care.
>Point 3, second sentence1: Refer to the previous point.
2: The vast majority of regretter/detransitioner stories are one of two things: LARPs, or true stories taken completely out of context. While there are people whose condition isn't improved, or people who had to detrans due to medical complications, that doesn't change that HRT and SRS are valid treatments for gender dysphoria.
3: GD comorbidity with mental illnesses is not causative. Just as an individual having depression and obesity doesn't mean that the depression caused the obesity.
4: The comparison of SRS to genital mutilation is hyperbole, taken from surgeries undergone in foreign countries by people with no other options, because, surprise surprise, they don't have support in their homeland.
>Point 4Likewise, this is refuted on my second point. Trying to make the best of a difficult situation isn't ignorance.
>Point 5People past their late 30s are in a less fortunate situation, yes, but that doesn't mean transitioning isn't a valid option for other people.
The human body develops, during puberty and onwards, based on the hormones in it, not based on chromosomes. A teenager with female-range levels of androgen and estrogen will age like a female, regardless of their biological sex.
