You had to advance way to much to do anything with the skilltree/skills and then you unlocked all of them basically just before the end and you had hardly any time to use them enough. But DQ always has/had pacing issues fomr a gameplay perspective. Grinding is way to hard at the beginning and at the end, they just throw the levels and skills at you. Btw. was leveling at the end also utter shit with you having to use the pepp powers to summon king slimes to then kill them with special moves....was/is just aids man. If you want a good game when it comes to these kind of games - try the bravely (default/second) series. The actual stories are fun, despite their issues (in the first game fighting the same bosses at the end agian and again, but the second game was pretty solid, can't wait for the third one).
