Is there any use to this pokémon or a way to make it viable even a little bit? I really like its design but its useless trash even in single player game.

make it specially defensive n pair it with a trick room setter, stilll not that good but would use all of its potential

Flame Body (so gen 3 on) can let him be a one-two punch against big physical attackers. Nothing quite like watching a dragon burn itself on contact.

If they ever buff Magma Armor to give an immunity to Water type moves, yes it might turn out to be amazing since its movepool is full of utility.

Needs a fire/steel evolution with massive defenses, or just a so-so evolution that drops either the fire or rock typing, like it either "cools off" or "overheats" as it evolves.

Slugma and by extension Magcargo demolish the second and third gyms in Pokemon Reborn, and can run a train on the fourth gym so long as water moves are redirected or otherwise dealt with.

The best use is in HGSS with Primo's Egg. Slugma is shit and takes forever to evolve, but at least it gets Fire Blast at Goldenrod and can help against Bugsy a bit. Magcargo also shit on both mandatory Charizard fights and resists Normal, the most common attacking type ingame.

Or maybe I got lucky with a Modest one which ended up borderline being EV trained in Special Attack while grinding, so it was weirdy powerful.
