I'd like to remind you all what Town (now apparently known as Little Town Hero) looks like. Pokemon is in no way their A game anymore. I have no idea what's going on, but whoever's handling Pokemon is clearly not the best Game Freak has to offer.

Pokémon SW&SH is the game Game Freak has to make. I'm pretty sure if they had other sucessful IPs they would have killed Pokémon after Gen 2 or 4.

They said it was done by Gear project and retroactively claimed Harmoknight and Tembo as Gear project games.
For what it's worth, Game Freak have a 20% time policy for staff. They can work on personal projects up to 20% of their work week as long as they're up-to-date with the company work. It's how Turner got Harmokight off the ground and personally LTH feels more like it came from a staff idea that got approved for full development, with the added bonus of allowing staff to gain experience making games in significantly higher resolution, without risking a Pokémon launch to do so (the fact they kicked it back to 2020 also points to Pokémon taking the dev team of LTH back to their usual jobs for launch).

Are you actualy fucking retarded? This looks the same as the routes in Sword Shield, except with character models that look like shit and have significantly more primitive cel-shading. To the point where it resembles a PS2-anime game with how the shadows are distributed.

And all this keeping in mind this is a game whose entire map is only one town. It looks bad even though the map is minuscle.

Do people realize Town is all in one setting? Plus, we dont even know how many people on staff working on Town(My best bet, not many at all)
Town doesn't even look all that polished at all.

As far as I can tell, nothing about this game looks remotely ambitious.

Based on interviews Ohmori and Masuda has stated that development was grueling. It's pretty damn clear that Sword/Shield needs to be delayed.

I don't like town artstyle, it also is supposed to be a very small title like literally one area or some shit. It's still going to be bad since GF never made a decent game and the only reason that pokémon sells is because they somehow got an interesting concept and never really change the formula since it just works.

Supposedly it's to bring knowledge back to Pokémon but if that were the case it wouldn't get priority. It would be a side thing they work on as they have the time.

The company I work for had to go through the same shit but they never dropped focus. All extra learning was done on the side as time allowed. And unlike Game Freak they don't have massive resources to allow them to MAKE that time.

Just sort of seems like Gear Project has been granted an additional purpose in the overall GF pipeline outside of being a team designation for side projects. It looks like it's where the bigger risks, experiments, and position shake ups happen. Sort of builds experience for employees that gives them valuable perspective and prepares them for leadership roles as well as operation/mechanical/system reference for the implementation of different ideas and work flows. It's a smart arrangement if handled well, and can easily be the most edifying means of justifying big shifts or additions in future Pokemon games and the teams that make them.

There is no universal best practice, and IF Game Freak pursued Gear Project as a priority relative to some parameters or goals, it wouldn't necessarily be detrimental to the focus or progress of a Pokemon title, which will typically also involve collaboration with various other companies and temporary staff, especially in more modern context.
