Would you want the other character to appear in the other game as well? They won't be a Gym Leader just a character you can talk to.

I like the theory that instead of fighting an Elite Four in order to fight the champion, Galar has a tournament with 16 participants. So the MC would still need to beat 4 trainers to reach Leon.
If that's how it works and the participants are the MC + the 8 Gym Leaders + the 3 rivals, they'd still need 4 extra characters to fill the remaining spots, so some of them could be the leaders from the other version.

Fighting types are based on martial arts as a form of combat, not sport. The fact that they can be both is irrelevant. If all the moves could be attributed to a martial arts sport then you might be onto something but there are plenty that don't conform to any particular sport and are used solely for their combat effectiveness.

The MOVES are based on martial arts. The type itself is based heavily on combat sports you retard.

The first fighting types were Machamp, themed around wrestling, which is a sport. Hitmonchan, and Primepae themed around boxing, which is a sport. Hitmonlee, themed around kickboxing, which is a sport.
