I understand playing the games 'cause we can ignore all the story and pathetic characters and focus on battling, training and catching Pokémon. The actual RPG part. But the cartoon? Are you for real?

They're not "Pokémon fighting". They're written for children. OP is complaining about, guess what? The narrative. Yeah, of course, they're pushing a protagonist Pokémon or whatever over the others instead of making sense. The whole point of this thing is too market it to retarded Japanese children, written by retarded Japanese men. Every season is the same shit. Oh look, Ash has a Pokémon that didn't evolve! And he uses it just fine! Pokémon hero of the month is battling others stronger than it with a type disadvantage and is still winning!? How!?

You people are complaining about the narrative of fucking Teletubbies. The best thing that ever came out of Pokémon regarding seeing Pokémon battling is the manga, but I quit reading before Johto. It was fun. Don't know how it is nowadays though.

The manga doesn't have any animation, and the games don't even give enough to work with to fill in the blanks yourself, so the anime pretty much is the only Pokemon adaptation that accurately shows how Pokemon battles are supposed to work.

And so were basically all starters in the anime. It doesn't matter. Not counting Pikachu, Charizard was and will always be Ash's Kanto powerhouse and the one who got most episodes dedicated to it.

And I already mentioned Sceptile (and partially Greninja) as the sole exceptions to the bias.

Infernape sucks ass design wise though. Honestly, ALL of the Fire Starters do. Even the ones I do like I don't really like for the design. They're just not good.
