>>39731158God, ever since DPPt and BW the trainer music has been WAY too fucking slow. Like, at least 0.25x slower than it has any right to be. Gen 1-3 trainer music is exciting, and the themes switch inbetween minor and major (mostly minor) to give a feeling of rising conflict.
XY and SM's trainer themes are particularly anti-hype, not just because of the slow tempo but they both are more in major than they are in minor. The minor scales and scales without resolve are what give that feeling of tension.
The SwSh trainer theme has similar issues. It's slow again, and while it's a bit better than the SM theme it's still more in major than XY even. I also think adding the general Pokemon title theme in the song itself makes it feel incredibly cheap.
The main melody feels really muddled, just like SM's you really can't sing along to it. I almost think this is a SwSh Champion music leak rather than a Trainer battle music leak because the melody varies more than your typical Trainer music and this song has a couple of parallels to the SM Champion theme.
My final verdict is that it's better than SM but still a 5/10, not awful but not amazing either.
>>39731180Team Skull, Gladion, and Lusamine are the best battle songs in SM. Everything else is extremely mediocre and forgettable.
