Only because every piece of media containing the Gen 6 starters shoves them aside for Greninja.
Even still, it'd make SOME fucking sense to give the starters of the Mega Evolution region a Mega Evolution instead of shafting the Starters less than an hour into the game for the Kanto starters and giving them Megas.

Tbh all starters should've had a Mega.

No, they discussed it together and synchro was what they ended up with. Yajima was the one forcing this shit. If he wanted a Mega Greninja he would have just asked them to design a Mega Greninja.

To which they did put in the games after they had created it since it was ultimately Game Freak that did it. All Yajima wanted was something like a mega for Greninja considering ultimately Mega Evolution and the like was about bonds between human and Pokemon.

They really should have given battle bond forms to some other pokemon, even if it were just the other Kalos starters or ashnime shillmons like Dusk Lycanroc. The way this gimmick was implemented feels super forced and out of place.
