Corviknight was obviously made to check Intimidate leads like Incineroar that ran rampant on VGC. GF has always cared about balancing VGC and these latest additions and trailer show they are continuing the trend.

The problem is that this is one mon that, based on stats, doesn't seem at all viable in VGC.
There are a lot of ways to balance the game but randomly removing mons and then putting bandaids on the leftovers by including a mon with an ability that might irritate them for a turn or two isn't how you go about it.

Screencap this and quote me on it: Tyranitar and Excadrill are gonna be on eight of the top eight VGC teams for the first major.

The one intimidate lead it has a good matchup against, Landorus, isn't even in the game.

In Gen 9 you'll have Krookodile running wild with no Corviknight to bounce Intimidates and you'll still say Game Freak knows how to balance their shit.

Gamefreak's balancing methods are always so ass backwards.
Like how they "nerfed" U-Turn, a move handed out like candy to far too many pokemon. Rather than just remove it from their movepools or nerf its power, they gave Fairy a Bug resistance and fucked over that entire type instead.
Or how they nerfed Dark Void due to Smeargle abuse rather than just patching the obvious loophole and banning the move due to it coming from a mythical pokemon, which gives said Smeargle users an "unfair" advantage that most mythicals are banned for to begin with.

Giving an abiity too one mon doesn't balance shit since said mon can as well be usless as shit autside of the ability and not be worth it to bring into a battle. Competitive didn't stop intimidate from being dominant and you have no reason to think mirror armor will. We also don't know yet if the ability gives the mirror to the other pokémon you have on the field too.
GF can try things but they ultimately are not able to predict if it will be effective or not, don't forget they are the same people that gave Aegislash the same attack and special attack and yet were suprised that people were using special Aegislash in VGC.

They never were going to balance the games. If a particular pokemon is too op, the best you can hope for is that it isnt in the regional dex from generation to generation anymore. The dex culling is 100% laziness and refusal to actually balance the fucking game

Sure, they care about balancing, we know that, the issue is they don't know how to balance because they don't play their own game competitively.
Hence why to fix the Thundurus problem they nerfed Prankster, Thunder Wave, Paralysis and added mons like Alolan Marowak to top it off.
They just see "Oh, thing is overused, let's nerf it" in some Riot Games esque move.

It's not even that. You have to make a game that's balanced around single player and PVP which is an issue. The real reason is gamefreak's lack of rectoning things due to grandfather clauses. There no reason why pokemon like Caterpie or Magikarp can't learn TMs or eggs moves. Slaking without Truant two powerful for the story? Why not just have a hidden ability one or an ability suppressing item available postgame? Delibird has bad stats but fitting abilities? Give it better stats, ice types are usually late game anyway. So many small changes could've happened in the last 20 years but they chose to let the problem get out of their control so now slashing the dex is the only (lazy) way to fix it.
