Like Blue becomes a gym leader, its lightly implied you changed Silver from a criminal to a kinder trainer, etc. Yea Serena/Calem doesnt really deserve it but compared to your three other rivals they are the definitive number two of the group. The weakest attempt at rivals has to be gen three, that final battle they added in ORAS with Brendan/May was a cute touch but they dont ever really have a clear goal and could be replaced with a random reocouring character instead. And you only fight Wally twice and the second time at victory road its like “oh yea the sick kid, where the fuck has he been”
