Are Pokemon simply data? Just constantly being deleted and replaced/changed as pkm files with each new transfer and save?

Or do they mean more? Let’s say you backup your save file, give your Pokemon a new move in pkhex, and then overwrite your data by importing the new save.

Are they still the same pkm? Are they just copies?
