This happened with Gen 6 because I didn't appreciate trainer customisation and PSS at first, but even Gen 8 being the worst in the franchise could delude me into thinking Gen 7 is redeemable. Alola was fucking awful.

I think USUM felt extra cash-grabby because there was only 1 year between SM and USUM. Or it made it feel like SM was sold as intentionally incomplete.

For B2W2, they acted as literal sequels to BW. USUM weren't sequels, they were AUs like Crystal/Emerald/Platinum were.
