Should I bother playing Black and White before playing the sequels? I was also thinking about playing Blaze Black or some shit

Don't do it. You'll wish you played the first one first. I missed out on gen 5 too and made the same mistake. Play them in order

BW2 is nice if you enjoy a content heavy singleplayer, but the actual structure of the game and progression is lame as fuck compared to BW1. The experience is much better if you play the first.

You really shouldn't skip BW1. It is a relic from the past, made during a time Gamefreak still cared. Play it and see what could've been.
