Adding "paid" in front in your mind when you see "shill" is a you problem unless you're talking about someone in the first group. Paid is not implied by the word shill because both free and paid shilling exists.
Nor does a product require payment for it to be shilling.
If you, say... Post a YouTube video somewhere and that video has no ads, nor have you been paid, you are still shilling it. Money doesn't need to change hands in any way for the term shill to be invoked.
