>>39783065I think the reason we all come back to these games is nostalgia and for the pokemon. The last 2 gens were so disappointing, and just terrible games. It took me months to make it through Ultra Moon, because not only was it dull but I genuinely felt like I had been scammed.
I managed to log over 200 hours on that game because I love pokemon. I like breeding, getting perfect IVs, battling, making challenges for myself on the battle tree, wondertrading for new shit, basically collecting. What drove me through the story was the knowledge that I could finally enjoy the game once the game was over. How fucked is that? Now the only thing I enjoyed the series for is being cut in half either out of laziness or some diabolical plan to grind more money out of me.
There is no way, with the recent (does 6 years count as recent?) track record pokemon has now that this game will be good, or should deserve my money. Since it's removing the thing I slogged for, there's nothing left for me.
I think what I and other fans are feeling is that our investments have been erased. I have 4 boxes of competitive-ready pokemon. Some of them are "shitmons", either because I wanted to win with just them, or I found that they provided a niche. Collection and experimentation was the heart of pokemon for me. Now if I ever wanted to move up to the next gen, half of that time I invested will have been wasted.
Pokemon is based on this OCD-level collection, I think they used to have some slogan about it like "must obtain all of them". The reason FRLG was released was to give players the opportunity to "obtain all of them". Now it feels like the heart has been ripped out of the series, and now it is what it is: a sub-par children's RPG.
