Did either of those things happen permanently? If they did then yes like Kami and Nail they would essentially be dead. Think about it is two souls merged together the some souls or third new one. Detective Pikachu already answered that it is a third new one and it died at the end of the movie

Detective Pikachu already answered that, it is a third new one and it died at the end of the movie so Tim’s dad could come back and Harry’s Pikachu be himself again

I don't think Dad-Pikachu died when they split. Rather, the consciousness in the pikachu body was taken out and given a body again. When everybody else was merged they retained their identity within the pokemon body, like the girl and her psyduck.

Not a fair comparison as psyduck and snubbull were unconscious due to R, it was a major plot point to Howards plan and was necessary for his form of merging. During the parade the pokemon didn’t have a chance to influence their humans, its why flying pokemon merged dropped immediately out of the sky. The human doesn’t know how to fly and the pokemon is unconscious and can’t help them
