Buy then at release like I did because they were the first anything I bought with my own earned money. Got my first decent payout from my first bunch of published stuff.

Also bought my copies of Blue, Silver, and Sapphire that day because the store still had all of them there.

Buy FireRed cause Red was the version I had as a child, play it every day, finish the PokeDex, use the cool wireless adapter to play with my friend.

It's unironically my favorite Pokemon game of all time. I still come back to it on occasion.

There are times when I wish FR/LG was made during Gen 4 if only for the Phys/Special split, marginally better movepools (for some mons, at least), and evolutions like Tangrowth, Likilicky, and Scizor, but honestly? They're still very solid games. My mind was blown as a kid when I found out online through a youtuber that there were more Sevii Islands than the initial three. Sprites, music, all that. Such good memories with Fire Red. I still have the trainer theme and gym leader battle theme stuck in my head all these years later.
