Story in Pokémon have been shit since Gen III. The games need to focus on exploring rather than having a wolrd-changing plot.

I’ll revise this to switch monster design and story, Kanto games were the best story wise because you were just some kid going around trying to catch all the Pokémon and beat the league, while legendaries were all there for you to find and not shoehorned into the story by making you the chosen one or whatever gay shit

honestly all of them have pretty solid map design except alola and to a point johto. i love johto but there are too many options of where to go when entering ecruteak, so they have to keep the path all the way up to lake of rage filled with low level pokemon. thats the main reason johtos level curve is so fucked, i like options but i think mt mortar and mahogany shouldve been gated off until after jasmine.

This is weird because after gen 6 and 7, i would still remove gen 5 without any doubts. Maybe its because they wanted to reboot the series with Unova and tried to recreate gen1 dex but with more ugly and boring designs.
