>>39806489>Like?limiting to unova pokemon is the big one. way less predictable than "oh its 3d now". also having a western pokemon designer made a lot of people not really give unova a chance. another big change is the story, with the game ending before you even officially are the champion, and the whole sequel thing being done arguably better than johto.
to be honest now that i think about it there wasn't really many changes. i guess my post was dumb. the only reason unova is polarizing is its pokemon thing. which feels kinda bad, since the games are basically "gen 4 but a better engine" and gen 4 is already quite good.
having gen 6 not really give a shit about its story, and have less new pokemon and also the least exciting designs of any region, was kinda jarring coming off of gen 5. the worst change though is the lack of postgame. gen 6 had a lot of good multiplayer features, but all you can do on your own once you beat the game is competitive breeding and training, and yet another battle tower. that's it.
because honestly i don't look for innovation in pokemon games. i want characters and a story that are actually interesting. i want something i can sink a billion hours into and still have more to do. i want escapism.
in conclusion, i got into the wrong argument here. sorry for conflating innovation with good pokemon games.
