Remove mandatory story. Part of what made Gold and Silver so great was how open it felt. Adding the mandatory Suicune stuff was the beginning of the end. The story kept ramping up with each game until Sun and moon

Funny because I love Suicune's role as the main legend, I just wish that whatever plan they had for the Unown had been included.
