Pokemon game set in region inspired by Britain
Britain has many badgers
Must have badger pokemon
Gamefreak has few artists and little time to make game
Nostalgiamon redesigns are also good for $$$ and Gen III kids are reaching prime young adult nostalgia cash in age.
Save time by just converting ferret/raccoon pokemon into badger pokemon.

It's just gamefreak's attempt at a middle ground between people who wanted new cross gen evos, but also people who are still mad about gen 4 even though the majority of gen 4's cross gen evolutions were good

I don't particularly like its design, but it represents the return of both cross-gen evos and regional variants. That alone makes me forgive how it's such a downgrade from Linoone (both original and Galarian).
