Friendly reminder that Charizard popularity is because TPC never marketed or promoted any other starter (until Greninja) so Charizard popularity was forced, not earned.

The fact that Greninja btfo Charizard in popularity in Japan is because of how much it was marketed and shilled.
If they did the same thing with other starters, Charizarad wouldn't be popular all these years, just like Blastoise.

Bullshit man. Blastoise had as much promotion and product initially as Charizard and was bigger in my house and in others, and its probably the same for Venusaur and Arcanine. Char might have gotten the most official promotion but they were all sold and marketed during the 1990s in the same ways, and if there was any difference in sales focus later on it's because of what >>39811569 said (sell the product that has higher demand). Charizard was the best; deal with it.

With reason. It's because Zoroark was protrayed in her movie as the misunderstood mother, who is looking for her child. That combined with her feminine design solidify her as a female character in a similar sense that Primarina is recognized more as a female character than male.

Because if he was charmelon or charmander he wouldn’t be visible from behind the seat, neither Venusaur or Blastoise would fit if they traded places. Either way Bulbasaur and Squirtle are out in front, Charizard is behind meaning hes getting less of a spotlight in the first commercial cal for the first game a full year before the anime

No its not. The game predates the anime by two years. 1995 vs 1997 Japan. Red and Blue in Japan came out in 1996 hence 1 year before the anime.

It's a US only commercial for a game that came out in 1999. The anime started in 1997, even if this ad aired a full year ahead of the game's release (unlikely since Red and Blue had literally just been released) it would still be after a year of the anime had aired.

No the game was released in 1998, the commercial aired in Oct 1997 because the game was was supposed to come out at Easter but got delayed until September. The english dub of the anime and Red and Blue had simultaneous launches but the commercial still predated it by a year.

In Japan in September, the ad aired in December it is unlikely a third party company who made that ad for Nintendo were aware of an anime which at that point would only have maybe 3 episodes and was completely in Japanese with a different context. Even if they were WHAT DOES IT MATTER, only Pikachu would be present as charmander wouldn’t be present until episode 11 which due to holidays and events didn’t air until January 1998. So unless you are arguing Pikachu is a starter you got no point
