Oh I know it's never happening. GF shits out whatever they want and it sells like hotcakes, TPC is happy and the cycle continues. Doesn't stop me wanting the best for the franchise though.

I get why TPC would use this as justification for remakes, but who the hell actually cares? If kids want to experience the originals, let them play the originals, but outside of that I don't understand in the slightest why people would rather have 1:1 rehashes (or worse) of games they've already played, over new releases that actually advance the series.

2020 will be Let's Go Pikachu 2, still in Kanto but with VR. They won't bother with Eevee again after it failed to sell.
2021 will be Sword Max and Shield Max. 95 old and 5 new pokemon get added.
2022 is Diamond Max and Pearl Max. The remaining pokemon get added, special and unreleased forms get excluded (ancient Magearna, eternal Floette, Ash-Greninja).

I hate it but it's undeniably true.
I could ONLY ever justify remakes if the games are straight up unplayable on the most (reasonably) up-to-date hardware. Looking at Pokémon, you can currently play every gen (so long as you count ORAS as gen 3) so long as you own a 3DS. DP doesn't have that justification, because those play just fine on a 3DS, but whatever, nostalgia sells so it's happening and there's nothing I can do about it.

They clearly do though. They organize the whole franchise, set deadlines for merch, licensing, anime, tech. As a result Game Freak has to indirectly follow these deadlines like the rest of the franchise.

The switch is their new Homebase though. That’s why the remade Kanto again, and why they said it’s the foundation for the next 20 years of Pokemon. They want to make every region playable on switch and will do that through the Let’s Go series.

The bit where Masuda says he enjoys playing remakes of older content. Now remember he's moving to a more upstairs role, he won't be making the games, but he'll be deciding what games do get made. Doesn't take a PhD to know what's going to happen going forward, before even Dexit was a thing.

And he hasn't retard, they still exist, they just won't in Galar. Just like a lot of Galar and other newer pokémon won't appear in the Sinnoh remakes. But they will all be able to be put into Home, even the shitters caught in GO, that never saw the inside of a Nintendo-based gamecart before, because they will still exist. They make money off them all, remember?

A Gen VII game anon. Launched before the new Generation on the new hardware, as well as using a heavily-modified 3DS engine to run on it, instead of taking the new Generation engine and building the game in that, like all other Core remakes have done.

He definitely has influence if he's part of the board but he's not the only voice. Nintendo and TPC publish the games too, and it's most likely they have a lot of say in development since they fund the projects. Most publishers do.
It would make sense then that the Eurogamer leak said Nintendo originally meant to release Usum on Switch but changed to a new generation.
Cip Masuda doesn't have as much say as you believe he does.

I doubt that Gen 9 will come in 2022, my guess is 2023. So my guess is

2019 : SWSH
2020 : SWSH 2
2021 : DP remake
2022 : no new game release, a little break

Game Freak are independent of Nintendo and TPC, as well as owning a significant chunk of TPC. Nintendo also have no control of them, when they delivered Blue instead of Pocket Monsters 2 like they were supposed to. Game Freak fund the projects in-house now, since after Gen I, they had money to keep paying the bills, unlike when they ran on a shoestring before its release and needed to borrow money off Creatures to finish it (which is where they get their franchise credit from). Aside from publishing the games, Nintendo don't do jack shit else, but oversee TPC in the form of board members. That's why they helped set up TPC in the first place - so it could handle everything else surrounding the games that wasn't actually anything to do with the games and let them worry about solely getting the games published, just like they leave GF alone to develoip the games how they wish.

Don't forget that Ishihara, despite not being in GameFreak, is a superior to GameFreak due to not only manhandling TPC (AKA the entire franchise beyond the games), but also being the chairman of Creatures (who's basically a division of Nintendo, so if shit goes awry, he can just tell Nintendo that something's fucking wrong).

I expect this so much. Please. make the DP remakes worth playing by adding regional variants and regional variant evolutions to the dex. (Both HGSS and ORAS expanded the dex, and LGPE has proven you can add new Pokemon to a remake.) I don't mind Dynamax and Gigantamax, but please don't make the game based on that alone.
