You literally have it backwards. Most of the Ash merch is the kid mass retail stuff that gets sold more while the Red merch tends to be stuff like figmas or statues which are far more expensive and are aimed at adult collectors. And even then Ash also has a bunch of higher end merch.

Your arguments are ridiculous though. It's true that SM's ratings are going down, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the anime is in trouble. In fact, it could be argued that the timeslot change was a change in strategy since they accepted that ratings for all shows (not just Pokemon) are down so it might be better to focus on merchandise and other stuff, which are all still doing better.

And again, it still doesn't explain why there's always a panic for Pokemon's ratings, but not for any of the many other kids anime in Japan, which almost all rate even worse.
