Financially yes, Pokemon could get away with Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom levels of bad on the sheer amount of people who'll buy the games just by brand, as games go, they aren't horrible but they aren't amazing either, depending on who you ask though, one can be worse than the other, some people would rather something laughably bad than something mind-numbingly boring.

No actually. Pokemon should be a whole lot better given it is the #1 grossing franchise. Sonic is a budget series, and while usually mediocre they make the best of what they have - at least presentation wise. They are also more willing to listen to fans as evidenced by Mania's existence and movie Sonic getting redesigned. Game Freak doesn't have to do stuff like that because drones defend everything.

This. Normalfags will still buy Sword and Shield by the millions, and Sonic will be lucky to reach a fifth of those sales with his next game. Also even if Sonic's next game is good, the writing and characterization will only get worse.

Pokemon games and Sonic games lost their heart years ago. Both haven't had games developed by the main team with any sort of care or soul since before 2013. I'd argue Sonic is worse off because the last Sonic game that you can tell Sonic Team put their absolute all in was Sonic Unleashed.

Yea I find it funny when people say "you aren't the target demographic anymore" when they clearly keep making references and callbacks to the Adventure Era and trying to do everything but make Sonic Adventure 3 to get Adventure Fans to buy the new games. The Sonic Twitter posts lots of Adventure references, the tone of Sonic Forces was a desperate appeal to Adventure Era stories, as well as Chaos appearing at all, and they even brang back Mephiles as a playable character for Sonic Runners.
