Decent phys wall with access to reliable recovery. Access to magic bounce gives it amazing hazard control but it's a bit weak for the upper tiers and has many surprise counters in the lower tiers.

Catchable in its opening gen only after backtracking to an early route cave, then surfing, then searching. Another in a series of Gen 2 games making Johtomons incredibly awkward or difficult to find.

near all johto pokemon are like this for example mareep will learn thunder if you don't evolve it. Not sure why but they didn't want you to evolve your pokemon right when they evolved
