The real answer is as a last ditch emergency plan
SW ᛫ SH will most likely not flop but if by some miracle it or any future pokemon games show signs of flopping they can just add following pokemon and everyone will buy them while singing praises for GF.
I mean with every 3D pokemon model avalaible it shouldn't be hard for them to implement following pokemons at the last minute. All of them more or less say and do the same stuff anyways

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to have your pokemon following you, it's a nice little detail and makes the player connect more with the pokemon.

I bet you're in love with SWSH cause you seem to enjoy less content and uncool features.

Pokemon is about exploring a new region and making connections with your favorite mons. Features like walking pokemon are simple, effective ways to make you bond with your team, and are better inclusions than some shitty powercreep mechanic that gives your pokemon an edgy form or OP moves that'll eventually get scrapped next gen anyways.

It might be anecdote but I load up my soulsilver just so I can walk my gardevoir around cerulean cape and see the hearts above her head.That one gimmick means more to me than a lot of shit in these games. I liked mega evolving, contests, z-moves, but I would trade it all to make following pokemon a constant part of the series.

Not really, most of them don't move very naturally and they don't have much personality outside of walking. It mostly just takes up space on the overworld and for the camera. I could see shouldermons, but having Giratina strolling behind you constantly doesn't add MORE immersion for me.
