No they joined him willingly which simultaneously more impressive and BULLSHIT. Had it not been willingly they’d have mauled him the second they were let out. They aren’t a Pidgy they are Legendaries both with above human level intelligence. Because the writers wrote themselves into a corner with the Paul arc and realized they didn't have a way for Ash to convincingly lose the league while also finally beating Paul, so they just wrote in an OC that's so overwhelmingly strong Ash gets to have his personal win but you still can't blame him for losing the league altogether.
