I'm talking about the expansiveness of the area. Yes, I figured you'd pick up the first thing you saw, but if you consider the Wild Area one big area, then your options are limited to what you can see when you first enter it. But I do like the solution that >>39825393 suggested.

I'm kind of stupidly hoping overworld encounters could be turned off (fat chance). I prefer the old encounter system. I'm not buying the game, but I'll at least get to see what other nuzlockers end up deciding on how to handle overworld encounters and the areas.

It sounds cheap, but playing LGE, it's harder than it seems. The number of times I've had the Pokemon I wanted pop up, but one I don't want either charges at me, or spawns as I make a beeline for the wanted Pokemon is waaaaay too high, and I end up with something like a Metapod instead of a Weedle.

I think they're just disappointed that the Pokemon aren't there walking around, and instead just drop in after so many steps or whatever.
This is exactly why I never wanted overworld encounters, because GF can't program for shit.

Yeah, that's my other reason for hating OW encounters. People say it removes the randomness factor, but you're only trading that in for a new problem, getting into an encounter you didn't want because you either didn't see the Pokemon in the way of your path to what you want or getting attacked by something you don't want and missing on the encounter you did want (assuming it disappears once you get out of the unwanted battle).

For me, REs work fine in Pokemon due to its nature compared to other RPGs. The surprise factor is fun since you can recruit an enemy versus just killing them. I wouldn't mind OW encounters if they were just generic blobs, like they were in Tales of Symphonia. Then it maintains the whole surprise factor, while also letting you avoid encounters.

I agree completely. In pretty much every other RPG, your aim is to defeat monsters, not catch them. That's why it works in those games, especially in ones where you can effectively "clear the map". But Pokémon is all about finding specific creatures to obtain them, not just blow past them. This is why it generally works better to have randomised pop-ups rather than overworld encounters.

I never played let's go and iv'e the stories about game freak's fuck ups but i thought OW encounters in that game worked just fine. I don't ever recall hearing people complaining about OW encounters in terms of technical reasons
