>>39828110>Would you be interested in a mechanic where trainers fight alongside their Pokémon?sort of. in my headcanon trainers need special skills to properly control and train each pokemon type. fighting pokemon won't obey a physically weak trainer and it's a huge advantage for a fighting pokemon trainer to be able to perform the moves they're trying to teach their pokemon or have their pokemon perfect. dark pokemon are always testing their trainer in one way or another, they're the most likely to slip away from trainers they don't like or "accidently" get their trainer injured or killed due to misdirected attacks.
mechanically this would be your trainer having their own stats that correspond to different pokemon types. something like BODY you could increase by doing martial arts or working out, it gives you bonuses to training fighting types, betters your control over them and lessens the chance of injury or even death when you get caught by a pokemon's attack. naturally, i assume this kind of game would have sim elements like persona so you can spend day blocks training yourself, training your pokemon, adventuring or league battling.
this could also lead to a lot of events based on your stats. once your body is high enough wild fighting pokemon ask to be trained by you rather than attacking you. once your sharpness is high enough dark pokemon start considering you the boss of a territory and offer you tokens of respect when they see you.
