Not really, I started with Firered, then Emerald, then Diamond before 'growing out' of Pokemon.
I only recently got back into it and have played Platinum, Heartgold and BW (not got around to BW2 yet) in the past year or so.

I'm completely capable of seeing that Diamond (the game I played as a kid) is flawed as fuck and Platinum did a far better job. To say my opinions are nostalgia driven is pretty dumb.

I started with Red and Hoenn is great (arguably the best), and Sinnoh is good, the worst part being mount coronet which could have been handled better. Otherwise Sinnoh is vast, has tons of interesting biomes and optional stuff.
