In lore, Pokémon choose to be captured if they respect the trainer, right?

If so, why would different types of balls improve the capture processes? That makes sense if being captured is involuntary and they have stronger capture mechanisms, but otherwise it’s hard to understand.

Could it be that Pokémon respond better to more expensive balls because they are more luxurious to live in? Or because it shows a greater degree of respect from the trainer?
