>>39849787I’m far from a genwunner but I do look back fondly at those times.
Everyone played Pokémon not just the socially awkward. I remember getting lost in the Silph Co. tower but I didn’t care. It never occurred to look up the sequence of teleport tiles.
We used the link cable from the quiet Indian kid to battle and trade during recess.
Pokémon cards were banned because we kept stealing them off each other
We all wanted to be Ash.
POKEMANIA was a category 6 storm.
School yard rumors were a thing, Mew under the truck was very real. My friend had a game genie and would sell mews for $10. I convinced my friend that in cerulean cave there was an item called devolution spray to devolve your Pokémon.
Internet at home wasn’t yet an everyday commodity
There was no leak season. The most we got was Pikablu from some kid’s brother that was in middle school (kinda like my uncle works for Nintendo), and then the shop at home network busted out with 9 cards from the neo series... the starter cards, that was my introduction to gen 2!!
I remember spending hours playing through an then getting to experience the old region, which now had a name. KANTO. I started training a larvitar on a whim, I had no concept of a pseudo legendary. I raised that little bitch not knowing what it’s final form would be. I was floored when Tyranitar appeared on my screen. I was eager to show it off at school in a battle against my friend that sold Mews since everyone considered him the Pokémon master. Remember, limited internet access. That nigga and everyone else were FLOORED when I busted Tyranitar out. The Indian kid immediately whips out a guide book, no one had one but him, and flips to the back until he finds Tyranitar.
“Oh shit, my friends”
Psychic attacks from his mewtwo don’t work.
Tyranitar kills it but eventually dies because it’s only at level 60 and I end up losing
So much has changed
