I actually just played them like 6 months or so ago, to complete the dex
I hate them and prefer HGSS and FRLG i every way. Same with hoenn. They are still better than XY and SM though.

Nah, not really. Nintendo could turn it into an item you'd use to access the Poketch stuff, or they could make it so pressing X button would turn on the Poketch.

Coincidentally, the majority of these will be missing from Sword and Shield.
