The places they decided to lock behind dialogues just add to that. Couldn't think of a way to properly implement them before meeting the deadline, and locked them away. The same probably applies to the Alola games as well.
Their sight for ORAS' fell short, compared to the godly and well executed HGSS.
The Unknown Dungeon of XY though, I would take that as a callback happily.
Overall, the 3DS Games are most definitely rushed, incomplete, and lack the spark that the 2D Games had.
