The most iconic caps are the original one and the Sun/Moon cap since that's the one Cap Pikachu is most commonly depicted wearing in official art

It's a concious design choice that he uses that cap. If they're going to put M20/21 Ash into the TV-Series, It's going to be a part of the aesthetic.

That's the thing though, we still don't fucking know what a Pokemon Master is. It's a vague term with no definition. TPC even refuses to answer questions about what it means, because not even they know.

That's the point.
No definition means literally nothing Ash accomplishes will mean anything in the long run, thus they can keep the anime going indefinitely so it can be a commercial for merch and the games until the universe ends.

I've seen people proposing scenarios like that, but I see a huge problem here: what the fuck will Ash do the entire season then? Just follow Shield-chan around for the entire season until the tournament starts?
Even in Alola, where he was supposed to be on vacation, he was always looking for battles. It would be completely out of character for him to just tag along some chick he just met for an entire season, while she's the one doing the badge quest.
