What if in the new series, they don't get rid of Ash, but instead introduce other Player Character inspired characters and alternate between them in different regions?

Kinda, but just in the anime's universe.

They already introduced the GSC protagonists in Legend of Thunder and the girl made a few cameos here and there. And the Gen 3 and 4's male protags cameo'd in the movies intros.
